413 Takeout / Dine Out
Community Campaign to Support
Northampton’s Restaurants

The continued struggle facing Northampton’s restaurants – including those in Florence and Leeds – is about to get some much-needed community help through a three-month campaign (2/14 – 5/14/22) kicked off by a broad coalition led by the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development Committee (“EDC”), the Downtown Northampton Association (“DNA”), in partnership with the Northampton Survival Center and generously supported by the Daily Hampshire Gazette. First implemented in February 2021 as 413 Takeout, and now relaunching as “413 Takeout / Dine Out”, this campaign is designed to encourage our community to support our local restaurants during the slower winter and early spring months.

Everyone in the community is being asked to:
4 – inspire FOUR friends
1 – to each order ONE meal a week (take out or dine out)
3 – for THREE months

The desire to relaunch the campaign emerged as Northampton weathered three restaurant closures within a very short timeframe (and a cumulative total of 13 restaurant closures since the beginning of the pandemic). While new restaurants are opening, it is clear that a boost from the community will help all our restaurants survive until the snow melts and the outdoor dining season is upon us.

The survival of our restaurants means the preservation of spaces that are important to the soul of our community. Restaurants provide places for us to come together and provide jobs for our friends and neighbors. Their economic impact extends beyond their four walls as well. The “multiplier effect” for the restaurant sector is 0.97. This means that for every job created in the restaurant sector, another job is created in a different economic sector. Saving restaurant jobs saves jobs everywhere.

Amy Cahillane, DNA Executive Director, said, “Our small business community has always been there for us – providing donations to our PTOs and little league teams – and now they need us to be there for them. I can’t imagine a Northampton without a vibrant restaurant community, and I hope that with enough community support over the next three months, I won’t have to.”

As part of this renewed campaign, the DNA has partnered with the Northampton Survival Center to provide meals prepared by local restaurants for clients of the Northampton Survival Center. Both organizations, together with a generous community sponsor, have provided funds to seed this effort with $10,000. We hope that with additional community support, we will be able to provide meals to Northampton Survival Center clients on a weekly basis for the entire three month duration of this campaign. Donations towards this effort can be made via 413takeout.com. Your contributions will enable our organizations to pay local restaurants to prepare these meals and will enable your friends and neighbors experiencing food insecurity to participate in 413 Takeout/Dine Out.

Everyone is encouraged to join the 413 Takeout / Dine Out campaign and support your favorite local restaurants (and maybe try a few new ones!) by enjoying your go-to dishes and to-go favorites throughout Northampton, Florence, and Leeds.
